I was excited about seagate, and even more so when I discovered that many of the positions for which I applied were “open” in the sense that they needed to be filled by someone with at least a G.P.A. of at least 2.0.

I wasn’t even supposed to be doing that and I was already pretty set on my career path. But it’s a great surprise to me that a G.P.A. of 2.0 isn’t more common now than it ever has been.

I think there are a lot more computer science jobs out there now. And I think I just heard a pretty amazing story about how Google got into the game of recruiting people with a G.P.A. of at least 2.0. I think I would have been interested in the job, but they found the perfect candidate who was actually good at it, and it is now their biggest success story.

But I think it’s important to note that while some jobs are more common now than ever, many other careers are not. For example, I had a job in the past that was very easy to get into. But when I graduated with a 3.0 GPA and did a job that was more demanding than I had expected, I realized that I was not as prepared as I thought.
