I don’t have a Ph.D. in chemistry or physics.Most scientists are trained to have a general vision of what they are studying and then move on to study that field for a bit, but I do believe that most scientists are aware of the fact that most of the work they do is actually making things. If you go to a university and see the amount of labs and equipment you find, you can see that everyone is building stuff. You might be surprised.

It’s basically the scientific equivalent of making things with your hands. It started out as a hobby back in the 50s and 60s and has since seen numerous applications. From making plastic for toys to making a new type of cement to creating new compounds that can withstand high temperatures, polymer science is really, really cool.

It’s sort of like the idea of the law of gravity. The idea of gravity was known before the advent of polymer science, but we still don’t really know just why gravity works the way it does and what it might be possible to create that we don’t already have.
